IMO, it is safer in winter (at winter pool). The water is where it is deep enough run for the most part. Down in the main lake you can run where you want for the most part. On the upper end is where you can end up on a stump at the channel edge.
It is different than Barkley where you can be in the cahnnel and 35' and then up on the ledge in 3' or less.
The old road beds are the areas where I see issues. The one in peter creek, the old 31-e bridge across the main lake, the old bridge up around brown's ford. There is one in coon creek too but I doubt any is running on plane where it is.
On the upside it is very easy to take a handheld gps and mark stuff that is high and dry in winter in order to fish in summer. You can also make brushpiles on the dry land fairly easy if you are inclined.
