Sounds scary but I have found the best way over the yrs. is to use a razor blade in one of those holders...low angle and start easy...after that the adhesive will guard the boat surface. Acetone, goo b gone, or goof off will remove the adhesive. I only have to remove the Ky. stickers and never try to remove them in one piece... and as you know my boat is fiberglass.
