Dave ... according to my KY Afield 2014 calendar ... the Spring Turkey Season starts on Saturday Apr 12th !!

And yes ... once we get the lakes designated to the months, we'll have to decide on what ramp to use for each one. That may take a poll vote ... and/or could be determined by ease of access & available room to set up the weigh-in.

    OR, how about :

    Ky Lake.....march 8th

    Cumberland .....march 22nd

Since it seems several people want to get this thing started early .... & this would put 2 weeks between each of the first few events - KY Lake tourney & the Cumberland tourney & the Green River Spring Fling (& likely a month or more between the KY Lake tourney & the Spring Shindig --- and 3 weeks between the Cumberland tourney & the Spring Fling @ Green).

Then it might be possible to move Taylorsville up to early/mid May ... leave Green in early/mid June ... Barren in Sept ... Fall Brawl & Ky Lake Shindig in Oct ... and add another lake for Nov.

That still spreads the lakes between the central & western areas, puts a minimum of 2 weeks between any two events, doesn't conflict with local CUSA tourneys, and doesn't seem to conflict with any major holidays.

I'm concerned about safety, as much as anyone .... but, I'm also looking at the normal weather situation for those early months. That's why I didn't want to start these tourneys any earlier than March ... and that may be cutting it close, even then. Snow, bad road conditions, icy launch ramps, or freezing temps do not make for a good tourney turnout !!

We're doing well to avoid clashing with CUSA tourneys, holidays, and various hunting seasons ... if we include every other club or sport pursuits, we're not likely to even have any tournaments. This whole tournament set-up is just a means to an end, that being a KY Crappie.com Club.

Many people cannot afford the expenses of belonging to CUSA or Crappie Masters. That's why we're trying to set these low $$ tourneys up ... not to compete with them, but try and work around schedule clashes as much as possible. There's just no way to totally do that, so it's up to the individual members to decide which pursuit they will follow.

That is so true but if we are going to get as big a turnout as possible this first year it would help. I know we started out talking about working around ckca tournaments that is why I was commenting on these tournaments. I know my wife and I have paid a membership for this year ckca and need to fish 2 more tournaments to qualify for the classic. If these tournaments work out next year we may not join ckca. I may be the only one tying to fish both I don't know. But I am sure if we set our tournaments up different we may get some new members from ckca who would join crappie.com. I know I am talking with several people about fishing crappie tournaments who will be joining one or both. In my opinion any time we can get other crappie fisherman to join c.com it is a plus. My wife and I wanted to try fishing tournaments and ckca were the only game in town when we joined. Make the schedule the way you need to and we will just make a decision on which we will fish no problem with us. We enjoyed the fall brawl and would love to fish with this group but understand we may not be able to. If we do ok we may also fish some cusa tournaments. There is no schedule that makes everyone happy so do what is best for the most and everyone else will have to live with that.
The only thing better than a day of fishing. Is a week of fishing.
