Thread: KY Lake Guides/Resorts/Time?

What kinda fish'n are you wanting to do? Spider Rigging, Long Line Trolling, Pulling Cranks, Vertical Jig'n, Casting Jigs, Minnows under a bobber...? My dad is 78 and has arthritis real bad in his hands. He can't set and hold a rod all day and the casting is tough on him too. He LOVES spider rig'n!

"When" really depends a lot on how you and your father like to fish... Some times of the year are better suited to certain techniques. I crappie fish all year long. My favorite time to fish is Nov. through March with mid Feb to late March my very favorite.

I am indifferent on method. Just wanna catch big fish and be able to go out in my own boat and duplicate the success.

So you want to hire a guide, mark his big fish spots, then go back in your own boat? Good luck with that.

I didn't say MARK HIS SPOTS. Just a technique that works that time of year. Get a general depth and bait type and go with it. No, I never said I would take a handheld GPS out and mark spots. Isn't the purpose of a guide to learn a technique and then try it for yourself? How many people go out with a guide and then never fish the lake again or try the same techniques for themselves. Think before you type.

I did think before I typed. I've seen it happen more times than I care to remember to both guides and just fishermen who are trying to help somebody out. I'm glad your motives are different than many. Good luck with it.

Wow. Nice to know that a person can get placed into a group just based on past experience. The funny part is you have no clue who I am or anything about me. You just reply to a thread with rude remarks and generalizations. Thats just not right. A person wanting to learn about a new lake so that they can hopefully fish it with success without the help of a guide is not wrong or unethical. Its the purpose of a guide I think. To teach new techniques and methods on unfamiliar water so that the person can duplicate the success. Not stealing spots or anything. Just learning techniques and patterns. I really don't even know why you posted to this thread if you intentions were to simply generalize and assume and be negative.

My remarks were not meant to be negative toward you or anybody else and if you took them that way, so be it.Your comment about taking your boat out and duplicating threw up a red flag. I had just recommended a very good friend and one of the best fishermen I have ever been in a boat with who is starting what will be a successful guide business. I think I owe it to him to try to let anybody who I send his way know what to expect and what is considered standard operating procedures, as I see them. In my line of business I hear from and work for many of the guides and outfitters in my area. One of their common complaints that I hear is clients marking and fishing the spots they were taken to earlier. I guess many clients feel that is something they paid for and they want their monies worth. If it is discussed ahead of the trip and both sides agree, problem solved. I also know some guides who will not take clients who mention that as being their intent.

This being an internet site that gets a lot of new members and lookers, I think it is appropriate for those of us who have been here for some time to mention what is considered fair game and what is not. I may be the only one here who feels that way. Sometimes folks just don't have an idea of what is considered proper until they are made aware of it.
