We finally had to put our Baby down a month ago. Our 15 year old Airedale. That dog protected the wife, and our girls through high school age, played with them, comforted them when they were sad and adored my wife Laura. She was my dog only in name because she had so much heart one master wasn't enough. We picked up a chocolate Lab from Doug last summer who will no doubt be a wonderful dog for us but she will have some huge paw prints to fill.
