    Default Ky Lake

Well I must say this has been the coldest trip we have ever had at ky lake. We are at the north end. Big Bear resort. Accommodations are great. Weather not so great. Fishing poor. The worst we have experienced in the 8 years we been coming down. Sat 19th we got 6 crappie, some nice gills, and a few yellow bass. Sunday we got 10 NICE crappie,12"-14" more gills and a few more yellow bass. Monday things slowed down and only 3 crappie and half doz or so gills. Tuesday fought and worked all day to get 2 crappie, COLD. Wed. didn't even go out. Cold. Thursday morning COLD and windy, i think they said 20 mph gust. It was rough but we went out and fought wind all day for 2 more crappie. Friday morning just heading out. And oh yes it's cold 27*.
Sat & Sunday's fish came from 6-8 ft of water on minnows. Since then everything has been in 14-24 ft of water on ledges on minnows. Seems as we are about a week early this year. Water should be cooled down to the right temp next week. Thursday the water temp had dropped to 58-60 degrees.
Crappie spawning and morels popping up at the same time. What was God thinking when he made that schedule. It's pure torture every spring deciding which to do.

Sorry you had bad fishing this week, I hope all other parts of your vacation were great. The fishing has been poor for me the last two weeks on both lakes. I also hope you are right about next week.

I'm off work the next two weeks, plan on doing some turkey and deer hunting then put out some more beds and hopefully catch a few crappie.

We fished about 3.5 hours this afternoon but hit a bite window of about 1.5 hours. The fish were under baitballs in 10-14 feet of water, sometimes suspended in deeper water. The best jig/body colors were hot pink glow heads (Thanks Buddy!) with orange body and black tail and roadrunner head with solid pink body/tail. Few odd keepers came on green or blue bodies. We ended up with 10 solid keepers with some over 1 1/4 pounds. Had several hits that nearly yanked the rod out of the holders that didn't hook up. I'm not used to seeing that after dragging Bandits all summer. I guess it makes a difference having 6 hooks as opposed to one. Water temp has dropped to 61 degrees from 75 a week+ ago.

Vacation has still been great. As long as I am fishing I am happy!!!!!!!!!
This morning was COLD and pretty windy. This afternoon was quite nice on the lake. Didn't do great on crappie but did manage to land a couple. Had a few nice gills, one nice yellow perch, and a couple yellow bass. Lost several big crappie right at boat today. We had a school of stripers busting close to us this afternoon but couldn't get them to hit. We just could't seem to get in the right location to cast to them. They were always just out of casting range. Tomorrow last day for us then back to work. Time sure flies when your having fun.

Did you get a look at them? What you describe sounds exactly like the huge schools of bighead carp we have seen on the surface all summer. We had them all around us yesterday, sometimes the schools would be 100 yards wide.

No not really. Actually my first thought it might be the big head carp. But with the shad jumping and the gulls grabing up the scraps I was hoping it was stripers. You are most likely correct.
