Default Choosing the right trolling motor and depth finder

I have decided to upgrade my trolling motor and depth finder . I am looking at the terrova 80 ipilot and ilink with a 60 inch shaft for my lund 1775 , is the extra 300 for ilink worth it ? Also looking at the humminbird 998 side imaging down imaging depth finder . I currently have the 798 hd si di , can I hook the 998 up to the 798 ? Still learning need to know before spending a fortune on electronics . What is y'all's opinions on what I should buy for fishing green and spider rigging alot ? Do I need the ilink ? Thanks in advance ! Jason

I can't help you with the iLink and Humminbird. But the Terrova with iPilot is invaluable for spider rigging.

Hey Jason! I am fishing a Terrova now and wondering how I ever lived without one. I feel the extra $300 for I-Link is definitely worth it especially if you are considering a 998. I own both a 798 and a 998 and have them linked - a stored waypoint on one will show up on the other, you can "store" numerous "trolling passes" and follow those routes again - making things a lot easier. Spot-Lock is incredible - no more throwing and pulling the anchor, etc.

Make sure you don't get to big of a tolling motor for your boat .to big and the motor will over correct when you have it in spot lock. Great for open water But not so great in a tight spot, like a small creek or standing timber. Check out operations manual b/4 you get one. Great for spider rigging.

If my Terrova quits I will most likely go with another Ipilot cause I use Lowrance depth finders.
as far as depth finder get as much screen as your wallet will allow.

Get the 998 simply for screen size. Huge difference when you are looking at SI. Either will work with the Link, heck some of the smaller units work with em.

If your 798 is an "HD" model you'll need the ethernet dongle and an ethernet cord. If it is not an "HD" model you'll need to buy and install the HB Interlink. If you have to use the Interlink make sure your software versions on both units are compatible.
