Hello all, I am a newbie here. I went out this past weekend for my first ever spider rigging trip. I had a blast to say the least! That is the good news...... but the bad news is now I need my own stuff, lol. I'm getting my boat setup to take me and my son but looking for recommendations on rods. I will have 8 rod holders and I have two 10 footers already. I have enough reels that will suffice as well but what name brand and length rods (models please) do I need to get to complete my setup and get started? Some of my buddies have B&M's while others have Mr. Crappie rods. I'm not looking to break the bank but just some good solid recommendations. Thanks in advance!

Welcome to the site Mcdenny........... Since you will be spiderrigging i would suggest atleast 12' rods. I like using 14's myself. As far as brands, Just about any will do. Brands would be more of what you prefer and afford. I like the BnM Capps and Colemans. Light enough tips but enough back bone for whatever hits it. The handles are longer so the set in the holders better without the reel hitting anything. Also i use 16' as well. Especially during the spawn when your in 3ft or less of water. The further out the bait is away from the boat, the less likely you will spook any fish. The only other thing about rods is this or any equipment . People who starting out spidderrigging trys to keep their cost down when buying equipment. Which i agree with. I did it. But, i bought rods, holders and ect...Then turn around a year or so later bought diff and better ones, and a couple more years did it again. I wished i would have researched it more back then and bought the good stuff first, i would have saved alot more money.

I really like my Ozarks. Pm or give me a call if you wanna talk any further. Don't buy cheap just think of it like a bass rod...![]()
Also for holders goto cumberlandcrappie.com and give Terry a call which is the best way to get in touch with him.
I just realized I have some unspent Cabelas and Bass Pro Shop Gift cards from Christmas and my birthday, so I would like to use these towards a few rods. I looked on both websites last night and didn't really see much of interest. Of course it is hard to pick a rod over the internet..... Might have to make a trip if someone has any recommendations from those two retailers. Thanks for all the emails about suggestions too!
Monday road trip....![]()
