Default What electronics unit to buy?

    Greetings,

I need some help deciding on a new electronics unit for my boat. I went to the boat show yesterday and talked to the guys at one of the workshops. Now I would like input from the guys and gals on the board.

I fish Green River Lake for mostly crappie. During hot summer time, I like to throw out noodles for catfish.

I have a 175 Bass Tracker that I've set up for spider rigging. I fish the brush piles and other structure that I can find with my 565 Hummingbird I have up front with a transducer on my trolling motor. The boat came with a Lowrance X-4 on the console.

My question is whether to purchase a DI or SI unit? The folks at the boat show said to go with DI because of fishing crappie and looking down. My friend who bass fishes tournaments tells me SI.

What do you folks use or think? I know I want HD and GPS. I could spend around $1200 or so.

    Thanks,
    TG

Pick up a Lowrance HDS 7 gen 2 and save a few dollars and pick up a used LSS-1 and have both DI and SS. I've seen used LSS units $300-$400 range on Bass Boat Centeral, there are some good deals out there if you shop smart. Also call Brian at BBG Marine for great prices and service, he can help you make your decesion on which unit to purchase.

I agree, I would buy a unit in the 7 inch screen size with SI and DI. If I had to choose between the two it would SI because you can see structure and fish without it being directly under your transducer.

BUY the largest screen you can afford. To see the detail and utilize the SI/DI images, the bigger the screen the better. Just like a TV
    GO BIG ORANGE !

I meant to behave, but there were just way too many other options available at the time.

2d shows "cartoon images" of stuff under the boat...

DI shows "picture-like images" of stuff under the boat and out to the sides a few feet....

SI shows "picture-like images" of stuff under the boat, out to the side +100 ft, and which side of the boat...

Decide what part of "under-your-boat" you expect your electronics to show you then buy the technology that best accomplishes that desire....2d...DI ....SI....

I would go with SI if I had the money. Give BBG Marine a try when you purchase. I just bought from them, great people, best price.

I put a humminbird 597 di on my pro team 170 last year and I absolutely love it. I do a lot of crappie fishing and the images that it shows of structure underneath the boat are amazing.

Wanted to say thanks for all the input. I ordered a HB 898c HD SI and a HB 788ci HD DI today from Brian at BBG Marine. Hope to have them up and running for spring fishing on Green River Lake. Been watching a lot of U-Tube videos and reading info on the HB Side Image forum.

    Thanks,

Make sure you get these 2 accessories so you can link them together by Ethernet.

Yes sir; they are in the box on the way with the units and two Ram mounts. Brian at BBG was on top of how to hook them together. I plan on using your pictures as a model to mount the SI transducer. I really appreciate all your help and advice. Hope to see you on the water someday.
