I have had the flu that's been going around and its been a month since my buddy and i've been on the water and we hope to remember how to fish. Friday, 12/14, we will be trying something a little different. The conditions have to be just right for what we will be attempting and all the stars seem to be aligned for it to be the perfect day. In order to fish The Barren River from Boat Landing Rd to downtown Bowling Green you must have the right amount of water being released and it sure looks like it will be just right tomorrow. Today when I called The Army Corps of Engineers the lake level was 534 and winter pool is 528, they are releasing the water on the main gate at 6 tenths. This means they will still pull the water for several more days at least at 6 tenths and the water has good color to it so we should fair well in the morning. I'll be taking my camera so if your familiar with Beech Bend or the spring at Plum Springs you might catch a glimps of some areas, and hopefully some fish, you've seen before. Keep your fingers crossed for us! I'll report back tomorow night.Boy its gonna be great ta fish again!

Good luck, nothing like an adventure !
I remember going there as a kid. I loved that place. My parents had a pickup slide in style camper and we traveled the state extensivley. hitting lots of State parks from one end of the state to the other. Beach Bend sticks out in my mind. Haven't heard or thought of that place in a long time. Great memories.![]()
Well it was a great day for a boat ride! I took a picture of a turtle sunning itself and I believe it was laughing at us as we motored passed it. Unfortunately the picture didn't turn out so well and neither did our catching. I caught one and my buddy Jerry caught one little dink also. We fished every spot that any self respecting crapppie would haunt to no avail. First time i'd gone up river into Bowling Green as far as the Old Louisville Road bridge and the trip was quite the eye full. Water depths ranged from 6' to 25' and the temperture in the river was 47 degrees while back in the spring areas rose to 55 degrees. We saw two other guys fishing for muskies and they had as much luck as we had. The water was muddy but we'd fished in water that was worse than today's on the lake before and with alot better success. Jerry kept telling me he'd seen a guy with a plow, trying to plant corn where we had just fished. He just likes to complain when we aren't pulling them in one after another. I think we may be checking this one off our bucket list.
