The smallmouth bite is usually best at night during the hot months. Dragging a dark colored drop arm spinnerbait on the main lake points will usually produce some.

Sounds like a good way to fish for them. How high up from the drop weight are you placing your bug and how much weight ya using?

any sauger guys out there? Do you guys drag jig and crawlers, or crawler harnesses , or use crankbaits, or what? Any early morning bite on the gravel banks on cranks? Hoping to get some of those toothy critters.

I use a 3/16 oz bell sinker with a 1/32 oz jig head about 12" up from it

I don't know anyone that targets sauger this time of the year on the lake. I have caught several by coincidence on deeper road beds while bass fishing this time of the year.

I want to thank all for the info. Had a great week down at Ky lake last week. One fish that eluded us .... was the sauger. However there were plenty of other fish to keep us busy. It was sure hot down there , however as soon as I pulled out and came home, your temps improved...lol. I must say, the bluegill and redear are still on...you just have to find them. I used SI on my bird to locate them in some of the many bays in the LBL side. Interestingly enough, one of the beds with the most fish on it , did not show up on SI as the tell tale golf ball dimples. I think it was due to the mix of gravel/ larger rocks that broke up the signal possibly.

One side benefit of the High pressure and warm days was that there was not much wind which made the main lake more fishable and enjoyable. One intersting thing was that on last Friday, we noticed a large number of large dead fish floating in the main channel...that looked to be drum. Does anyone know why this would be the case. I also know that we hooked several of these drum while trolling near Paradise.

For pics, see my post in on the Indiana board. http://www.crappie.com/crappie/india...lake-trip.html

Sorry for the late reply, I do like Quackr does but use 2 splitshots on the bottom and tie the 1/32 head bug about 10-12 inches above. I looked at your pics and it looks as if you guys had a heck of a time.
