    Smile New to Forum

Hi all, new to the forum, seems like a great site.

I don't know much about crappie fishin like it's done now days, but wanting to learn more about spider rigging and some of the other new techniques.

Also I have a question about eating crappie out of Green River Lake, is there any restrictions due to mercury or PCBs?

    Thanks

Welcome to the site Hogdaddy. You should've been here last week LOL No really, the KY board had a slabfest at Holmes Bend on the 10th with fishing in the morning and cook out in the afternoon. We ate a LOT of Crappie from Green and we're still around to talk about it. I, personally haven't heard any thing about something being wrong with them.
check out the thread call spring crappie slaying get together. there were about 20 people there and we had a very large time. There will be more of them and we hope to see more next time. It sure was nice to put faces on the user names on here.

Thumbs up Welcome to Crappie.com, Hogdaddy

While there are "new" techniques to be learned, the old tried & true ones still work very well
The debate over live vs artificial as the "only/best" way to catch Crappie, still rages on :p but, they both work. The biggest change in Crappie fishing, over the last 30-40yrs, is in the equipment available. Still, long term experience & knowledge of the fish's habits & habitats is a great equilizer for those without all the latest & greatest toys. :D

Green River Lake does have consumption advisories for PCB/Mercury ....

Bass (LMB/SMB/KY's), Catfish, Drum - Mercury
    Suckers & Carp - PCB's

Statewide - all waters are under advisory for Mercury. Restrictions are specific to women of childbearing age & children under 6yrs old, and that's a maximum of one meal per week. All others are excluded from this statewide advisory, except where listed in the Fish Consumption Advisories (pg 20 of the Ky Fishing & Boating Guide).

Welcome to the site. Anything you ever wanted to know about the when, where, what and why of crappie fishing can be found here. Great bunch of folks.

As far as Green goes, sure hope there isn't any consumption advisory. I just made a fool of myself over a plate full of crappie at our gathering and ate some more just the other day. Lol!

Thanks Guys, seems like good people here.

Took the family to Green today for a couple of hours, caught 17 keeps, didn't catch one that we couldn't keep. Most were around 11 - 13 inches with 1 being 14". Caught ours shallow, less than 7' deep.
