Cool I put a plan together and...

It sucked! I fished from 5' out to 14'. Didn't catch a fish till I hit 10'. I worked my butt off!

Finally found some fish on some brush in a little ditch. They were 8 to 9 foot deep in 13' of water.Ended up with 14 nice fish but only 1 real good 1. Most were around a #.

I left the camera at home but took a picture with my phone. If I can figure out how to get the pic. on the computer I'll post it on here. Nice mess but I'm still disapointed.

I feel like I've been riding a Bull all day! It was ruff on the lake!

Seems everytime I feel "got em figured out"......they aren't there. They don't subscribe to the same playbook that I have. Went Saturday fished 22 brushpiles from 12 to 22 ft deep.......caught 6 on one and never had a bite on the other 21. Didn't think that would even be possible?

Man what a leading line, I figured you killed them. Just leave a few for me I'll be down the first part of April.

I can't bring myself to spider rig! Even tho you guys are catching nice messes of fish, I still can't do it.

I have to feel the "thump" when they hit that lure!!! I did fish a flat on saturday, and caught 3. Sunday the wind blew my son and I off the water.
Monday, my daughter and I managed a few, but not a mess to feed the whole house.

It has been years since I have fished the lakes. Just moved home in the last 2 years, and its kicking my tail. Trying to find brush in water from a fishing map is like looking for a needle in a haystack. But cathing a few in unchartered waters is not tooo bad!
We are finding spots, and marking with the GPS. I appreciate the tips Wiskers from your posts. I have started a fishing log for each outing to record data for the future. Developing a basis for colors, water temp and conditions, and depth.

Keep up the hard work. The bite will turn here before we know it, and the world will be right again!

I'm like you. Vertical jig'n is my favorite way to fish. That thump is what I live for. As for the spider rig'n. Look at it this way. It is a searching too as well as a fishing method. Probably 40% of the brush I have marked I found spider rig'n. Trust me, when you have 8 poles out, spanning about 30' you're gonna find some hangup's!

As a matter of fact that's how I found the brush I caught the fish in yesterday. Got hung in it & while I was trying to get 2 rods out I caught a small fish. I marked it, pulled the spider rig rods in the boat, & broke out the jig'n poles.

Lot's of folks think spider rig'n isn't a challenge. You just float around and fish jump on your hooks. Nope! There's an art to it, and if you get your technique refined and pay attention to what the fish tell you, it can be very productive.

Wiskers is right about the technique. I can fish right next to him and he'll out fish me using all the same equipment. "Grasshoppa" needs to learn from the "master".

    Default Love that Thump

That tump is what I fish for, But the last few years I have been catching more when I feel nothing or see my line go limp while retreving. When the thumping gets going they are in a real aggressive mode and the fun begins. The biggest crappie I seem to catch have been the light bitters. I,ll be down next week and hope to feel that thump. By the way what are the water temps ? Dave
