    Default Cheney

Does anybody ever have any luck crappie fishing at Cheney Reservoir? I have had luck with catfish there, but never tried crappie in that lake...

Is there enough water to even launch? Last trip was Black Friday and I barely got the toon in. I've been hoping this rain had brought it up enough but haven't drive out to see yet.

I've seen lots of boats get unloaded lately, some deep v Lunds and deck boats. The crappie bite at the marina was great two weeks ago. Then the weather came in and made everything funky. They should be real active again by now.

Thanks Super I've been wanting to hit Cheney for a while. Hopefully the winds will be favorable on my next shot out.

Don't let the news make it sound worse than it really is. We just need a good 5-7 inches of runoff, not this sprinkle here and there bs, and the lake will be back to normal. We're doing a lot better than some of the bigger lakes that were down 12+ feet in Oklahoma/Texas.

Just think, less water means less watersport boats out :-)

I fished Cheney this past weekend (Saturday the 18th to be exact) and we slaughtered the crappie. There were people shoulder to shoulder on the dam and a ton of folks fishing the rocks at the marina. I went to the marina as well. I didn't see many people catching them, but they were going about it all wrong. Almost everyone was tossing minnows under a cork out 10'-15' from the back. The key is to use chartreuse jigs as close to the rocks as possible. I was using a pearl/char. solid body tube and I caught probably 40-50, had maybe 30-35 definitely over the 10" limit. Nearly every single one was caught within a foot from the bank. If you go, get there EARLY so you can snag a good spot because they'll fill up quick.
