Thread: Guide Trips are not always about Catching Fish...

Had a great group from Lincoln NE that fished with me this weekend. As they got into the boat and we were heading out I found out that one of them just got back from Iraq and his friends were taking him out fishing to relax. I had the privilege to speak with him and his job was to find mines on major road ways for the last year. Joking with him, I ask him to hold up his hands and yes he had ten fingers… During our fishing trip I noticed he wasn’t up front fish but was in the back sleeping. I thought to myself maybe my guiding was to boring to him but after 2.5 hrs. later he came up to me and said he hadn’t rested like that in over a year. He shared many stories that I don’t want to repeat but believe me, I am really glad we have solders like him that will protect our country so we all can enjoy our freedom. I know some aren’t so fortunate to come home and fish but I am thankful to all…

As we returned to the dock, payment was due. I shook his hand and told him that he rides for free on my boat anytime. He smiled and walked to his truck and I sat there thinking about the things he said. Maybe we don’t express enough and take things for granted but I sure felt better after my day with this solder.
