JNP, Thanks for the info. Don't know if I would ever be anywhere near there, but sounds like fun places to fish.

Andy,
have you ever fished Lake Madison? If so is the ice fishing any good there? My wife's aunt and uncle own a cabin there and offered to let me use it anytime but they didn't have any info on the fishing?
Thank you,
Joe

Andy, I was there yesterday, some skim ice in the really protected areas. But it was gone shortly after lunch. Gotta really work for big fish, numbers aren't even half of last year.
All lakes raise a foot when I step in the boat
Lake Madison is a fantastic fishery! Walleyes and perch are the most numerous and sought-after fish in the lake. The crappies are that lakes best secret. Nice crappies too. We really got into them this past spring pitching jigs to the boat docks. Most were 10-12 inchers.
I would probably fish it in late May-June. Pulling cranks on boards will get you as many walleyes as you want and pitching the docks will reward you with nice crappies, perch, and some really big bluegills. The cabin owners catch limits just casting off of their own docks. If you ever make it up this way, shoot me a p/m amd I'll get you more info.
P.S. The ice fishing can be pretty slow out there.
