Kind of wondering what everyones opinion is, of B-backs attempt to take control of the recreational management, from the Corps of Engineers and hand it over to the State of Kansas Department of Wildlife and Parks and Tourism? Personally my opinion is that it would be an disastrous decision for all of us in Kansas, that use these federal lakes and facilities. Input?????? DK

I am against that. Our wonder governor and his commissioners who are out for their best interest will not do us any favors if they have control of all the parks.
My reference to my post was the front page article in the Topeka Capital Journal 10/30/2013 Wednesday
The states not even taking care of the parks they control, what makes them think they won't mess up the Corp. ground. Clinton is being half mowed, the roads are sagging in, and they have probably half the campsites they had 10 years ago!! Funding through the legislature is destroying our public lands, lack of upkeep and neglect. Kansas needs to look real hard at the Missiouri funding model.....oh wait, we're 98% private. Off my box now, think I'll enjoy a cool beverage![]()

Interesting new spin we got here with Brownback. I haven't seen the article yet, but the COE wants out, bad. They been looking to have someone take over mgmt for a while now. My biggest case in point are Kanop and Wilson, both lakes had some work done trying to attract a "lessee". Some study done said that campground and facility improvements would benefit better under more ideal conditions. Hence, most bath-houses had some remodeling and public restrooms were installed. Quite a few restrooms too I might add, Kanop alone received 6, every parking area there has a restroom now. I think Wilson had similar numbers itself.
There is one benefit I can think of, 1 permit. Oh, oh, another Fed shutdown and the ramps are still open.
All lakes raise a foot when I step in the boat
I see no benefit from there being no competition for the state if they had control of them all. Basically every lake that had corp park and ramps also had a state park that will stay open in the event that the fed government shuts down again.
Here is the article
