Guys, I'm sorry but there's been no fouls committed here. We can all nit-pick each other to death on this, the jig purists blame the the minnow dippers, the walleye guys blame the bass boys and so on. The simple truth be known, it needs to be taken out of KDWP's hands and laws like California has done to stop the spread (thats LAWS). We need to go to the seal system, and it's going to double if not triple the costs of various permits/licenses. That will entail gatekeepers with wash down systems, no early-bird specials, night fishing will probably suffer most, along with other things my fat fingers don't want to type. So keep bitchun' and blaming, it doesn't help a dang thing. I've seen bigger wastes lately of natural resources, go look at all the dead fish in Milfords outlet, you could fill a couple semi's with the walleye alone. Where's the Nebraskans when you need them. BEWARE it's going to be even more expensive than now, this is a freakin' mess, whose gonna clean it up? Or pay for it to be done- YOU are!! Pour on the gravy, just stop the blame-game because we're ALL guilty!!!!!!!!

You are right. No laws broken but Duck is right in that we should do everything possible we can do help prevent the spread. It can't hurt and I don't think Duck was chewing any butt...just pointing out that we should all think twice when moving lakes.

Its kinda funny though that you tell him to quit complaining about a lake he is concerned about. Like eatmorefish the Neb guys you complain about aren't breaking any rules. You are just upset that the pressure is going to make Glen suffer. It all comes down to a lake you care about so you are going be more passionate about the topic.

KDWP has been asking us for 2 years not to do this because this is exactly how they get moved.. If you do go from lake to lake you need to spray your boat down and clorox your livewells. Zebras in Melvern are going to hurt that lake bad.

100% not trying to be jerk just this is the exact example KDWP asked us not to do or to spray down. Just keep a bottle of clorox and spay the inside of your livewells.
Good post. Well said. Thumbs Up

Guys, Not tring to be a bad guy and I am sorry if you think I was after you. I think it just really really really scary that people still don't get this is how they got form Cheney to El Darado... Sucks this type of things isn't more understood. Not saying you are a bad guy just that be carefull this is how it happens. We don't do it any more but I guess I am only one guy. Your welcome to do what ever you want but all it takes is one boat to mess up a whole lake forever...
It's not duck season so I have to do something... :D

I have to agree with the thought if you go from one lake to another you should treat your boat. KDWP is taking a very calm approach with these things I personally believe that with in another 15 years we will be luck if there is one lake in Kansas that doesn't have a recorded population of zebra mussels. Colorado on the other hand is on the offense requiring inspection before launching boats at least at certain lakes and all boats that come from out of state must be inspected

I had the same issue on Melvern the first weekend in June, I was down there from friday to sunday and the GPS would not work right at all. I thought it was my unit but it worked the next time out when I was on the another lake. Glad to hear others are having the same issue and its not my unit going bad. On a side note I wonder why we are having issues.

When I went to the fish cleaning station, there were 2 guys from Topeka cleaning fish. I asked them how long the zebra mussels have been in the lake and they had no clue what I was talking about. That to me is scary and it shows that even though 98% might understand the impact of the invasive species, there will be 2% that are clueless and will help spread them to the next lake. It doesn't hurt to over-communicate or take extra precaution when travelling between 2 lakes and I have a lot of repspect for KDWP but they have limited resources and can make mistakes too. (White Perch being stocked by accident is a good example that comes to mind).
This invasive species is a problem no one person can cure it. You can have the gate keeper clean you boat with a wash down but you still can't get everything. Bleach? Keep it away from my boat! Hot water? YES! But remember, it's not only the boats or bunks but the hubs and trucks, drift socks, nets, ect. Some lakes try to check boats and spray one squirt of water/bleach in the live wells and props and will ask you where you were last but that isn't going to get it. Just like a creel limit, you have to educate yourself on what waters have them and how you should clean your stuff.

I fish a lot of waters and yes, it’s hard to remember who, what, when and where. We don’t want to point fingers but help each other control this invasive species. We also must remember that the birds will also have an effect in transportation. Read up on pelicans…

    Just my two cents worth…

And yes, my GPS did mess up on Sunday... Who would of thought?

    Shane,

I hate to keep beating a dead horse on the zebra mussels topic. But, over the last couple years the guys at the gate at Coffey County have claimed that they are going to start requiring fisherman to drain livewells before they leave the lake. My problem with this is that they have said to me several times that they have no plans to put in a fish cleaning station. I'm not saying I can't clean fish without a station, but if they will not allow people to leave with fish in their livewell, it just seems that the logical thing to do is to put in some kind of fish cleaning station. My question, if someone were to take their boat home and drain it in their driveway after they clean their fish, what are the chances of zebra mussels going from the driveway into a river/lake system?
