If it starts with M than it's all good.First choice is matzuo's sickles,second would be mustads.What kind of hook were you using when you lost that hog??

I've always used Mustad 32756 Bronze hooks from 6 up to 3/0 and hung some BIG smallies in Lake Champlain and elsewhere and never had any problems with them so I still buy them.

But I bought some of the sickles to try out and yeah their sharp as heck.

PawPaw if I went through all the jigs I have poured on Mustad and got rid of them I'd be able to support a WHOLE BUNCH of folks for years, panfish up through Bass.

Have you ever used Mustad 32751 jig hooks ?
They're an extra fine wire, long shank Aberdeen jig hook which gives you a little extra gap between the hook point and the jig head. I Use Fireline (1# through 4#) for all of my crappie and panfishing and these hooks have rerally worked nice. Getting hung up is not a problem as you can straighten out the hook with steady pressure using the Fireline and then bend it back into shape and keep fishing !
It's also a great live bait hook do to the fine wire !

In Mustads catalogs, they have the 32751 listed as a short shank heavy wire jig hook and it's been that way for years. Can't figure out why they haven't made the corrections even after alerting them to the error :rolleyes:
I discovered them years ago by accident. I ordered them because I needed a heavier, short shank jig hook. I didn't get what I order but was pleasantly suprised and have used them ever since !

I like the Matzuo Sickle hooks in the black nickle finish #1 or #2

Believe it or not it was a #6 Mustad My fault should have been using #4 at least maybe #2 they were suckin it in to the latch I'm gonna tie this jig in the next swap new color's its awsome!

Well since I have not had a chance to use my sickles yet I would have to say VMC. Have not found a more durable hook for the other fish I fish for. Siwash, jig, salmon, or otherwise they have never failed me. I can not wait for someone to get those VMC Barbarian hooks in, will likely be my preferred hook for all species simply because they will be strong enough to handle all my fishing needs in one style of hook. Not sure I would trust a size 4 M.Sickle to handle a 20+ pound salmon or steelhead. Those hooks, if they are as strong as they claim will allow me to tie jigs for anything and not have to have multiple different brands and styles for each species. After all, the same jigs that we tie for crappie will catch some larger fish too.
