Have you ever fished them side by side? Unpainted the powder paint chips right off....once cured, if to the correct temperature and length of time, it's about impossible to get off. No point in using power paint if you're not gonna bake, IMO.

That is so true.. I tried some that I did not run through the oven. And the paint came off in a few minutes of fishing. Now these were 1 oz sauger jigs. That are bounced off the bottom so many times per minute. That it has to be tough.
But after using the oven, The paint is there until you wear the jig out or it breaks off. So for me its bake them, Or If I am not going to bake them. I will not even use the powder paint.

i too don't put mine back into the oven... for me i'm gonna use 'em and lose 'em.... after I've powdered them up and they sit for a bit, I'm off and tying and the out on the water and trying.... but for me that's a personal preference....

but the key truly is... don't get it too hot.... my buddy 'wardsmit' showed me the ropes on powder paints and he said it's easy to start off too cool that to start off too hot... so I guess it's a lot like going to ask a woman to be your wife... you'll get a better response by dating rather than running up to her the first time and screaming, "WILL YOU MARRY ME?!" (hehehee)

I use to not bake them but they would chip in the box if you drop them. So started to and its not that much trouble and they come out hard as heck.

there is a fine fine line, when heating the jigheads. and swishing them in the powder. It takes practice. I always lose some heads to overheating, paint bubbling and lead melting etc. have tried some tamiya acrylic paint in liquid form and clear coated it with cs clear cote, and can't waite to fish it and see how it holds up. the vinyl liquid paint is good but I don't always want such a brite paint.

My results are better if I back off both time and temp from the recomendations on the jar. Might just be my oven and timer.

    My .02 cents too.

If you're taking the jig to the Lake
Be sure that in the oven you bake!!!
