Skip does have a good video on this if I remember correctly. Maybe he’ll post after while.

My V's are about 1'4" of shaft, give or take depending on the size of the jig. On a 1/16 I will use 3 to 6 of these v's and I see none of the shaft when complete. They are placed in different places to keep the shaft sections from creating a lump. These I have heard called stingers and I use a medium chenille to complete the profile. Mixing colors of the v's can get a good effect also, such as say 3 black with 2 yellow chart on top of that. Mixing in some flash in between the v's also adds a different look. Skip ties in all his v's at once if I recall, but I don't have that dexterity so mine go in 1 or 2 at a time. I also add some from the base of the feather that kinda look like maribou to add bulk and slow movement action, all the pieces have a use.

The jig in the pic is similar to some I have tied before and they catch fish just fine. The shaft wont flex but the long fibers do a great job of giving good action. There is no wrong way to tie a jig, just different ideas to suit different needs. Mine is just some input to hopefully answer some of your questions. Skip has bags of these v's from feathers he has used the tips off of, so i'm sure he has more input to what I have started. Keep it up, you do nice ties that I'm sure will put fish in the boat.
