I’m little slow but I think I got it now. You push the feathers together to fill in the v then tie them. That’s what I did wrong I left a big v. thanks

When I tie my tails I put down the tip on my leg, then I stack about 3 V's on top. Then I pick them all up together and adjust where I want, pinch them from the side and tie it in. You do have to start off with the feathers leaning a little to your side as they will roll a little. I start wrapping my thread out to my stopping point, then I look at how it's sitting and adjust any that I want. Then I press my index finger tip tight against the thread actually on the opposite side from me so it will not rotate any more when I start wrapping back to the head and I do make these wraps tight. Once back to the head with a good number of wraps, tie in your flash or chenille or what ever you have next.

Also look at this little test video I did checking out my camera. Sorry I never went back and did it proper, but maybe I will.

That’s fast. Thanks for the help. I was letting it slide to the side and not pushing it together. Once again thanks

Try using smaller hackle and tying in the tips of 3 or 4. Something like your picture I would try if making a crayfish type pattern.

To me, the open V looks kind of like a minnow tail. Just a thought. Some fly tyer do that intentionally on the bait fish flies.
Calling fishing a hobby is like calling brain surgery a job.
