First I don't think you need to wrap the thread so far down the shank and the more you wrap the more you have to adjust the feathers. I tie all my feathers in together, that is a tip and 3 of my little V's stacked on top the tip. I pinch them all together and place on the shank tilted towards me a little to make the rotate it is going to do end up where I want it. Also if you have not tried my little V method for tails, it's really nice because of the bushy effect you get in the tail where the little V's are and then the tip goes a bit more. You just have a little more bulk with the little V's. Also if I want a two color tail I can use two tips or I can just make the V's the 2 colors. When using two tips it's sometimes harder to keep them both straight like you want. Some of this is because the cheap hackle used in jig tying has round stems that roll easy and then not all stems are the same thickness and if the 2 stems are different thickness it seems to me one of them is going to roll more than the other. This is part of the reason I found my method of tying my jig tails using the little V's and once that was figured out I was never to return to the just grab two tips and tie them in way!

Besides if you have two tips tied on a jig, when wet they still just look like a stick on the back of the jig IMHO!
