Most any glue will mess up the paint on jigs. Just try not to get any on the heads.

Skip uses a mixture he came up with using MEK I think it is. Personally I don't tie enough to warrant buying bigger batches of anything cause I would never use it up. A mixture I have found that works for me. I got one of those small plastic applicator bottles with the needle for applying, I use 2/3 Sally Hansens hard as nails clear polish and 1/3 polish remover to thin. Just a couple of drops and thread absorbs it right up. The remover evaporates really quick leaving a pretty hard seal with very little build up. With the needle yo don't get that smear onto your heads. A couple of bucks last me for 6 months.

Plastic applicator bottle filled with Sallys HAN for me as well. A drop or 2 of acetone to thin if needed. That plastic bottle was one of the best tying investments I made.

As mentioned I use MEK thinner, but I just mix it close to 50/50 with Clear High Gloss Lacquer. Both this qt of each probably over 10 years ago and still have plenty left. Probably never have to buy more again ever! Soaks in fast and dries fast without leaving a hard spot. That is what I like. Now even this if you put it on the paint will leave a mark! I place mine between the head and the chenille and probably a little gets on the head, but not enough to do anything.

When I first started tying flies I used fly tying head cement, but now I don't use any at all. Couple of 3 or 5 turn whip finish's is all I use.
I feel the same way actually and still put that drop on just to make sure. I always use 5 turn whip when tying with 210 thread and some times with 140, but also use a 4 turn whip on 140. If using like 6/0 probably 4 turns is all I can synch up at the end without breaking it.
Guess I should also say if it's a thread neck jig I do not use same glue and I use a flexible glue I make kind of like Dave's Flexament.
