Okay Steve glad you soak it is. Don't feel bad about the Rayon, most do not know that and I don't ever remember telling anyone about it that ever said they already knew that. I just kind of discovered it myself because I would tie a jig that same out good and then I would tie one that came out like yours did. Then I started asking myself what it heavens name is making them come out different. Then I finally figured it out that they feel different coming through your fingertips. Then it was just a matter of tying one and see what happened using each end, LOL!
Just remember a few things on your chenille like the spiky stuff, first if it came wrapped on a card, it may have direction for you to use and if it does then tie in the end to when you make wraps the lean is to the rear. Even with this still use your off hand when making wraps to pull the fibers back away from your next wrap.
When we talk about the feather on top of the hook, we are also saying the feather needs to lay flat on top of the hook with the shiny side sticking up and the other thing is with this the curved down side will be on bottom. Here is a picture of what I mean and I hope it comes out clear enough to tell. When you look at your jig profile you should see the edge of the feather and not a broad side view.
On your place to stop the body, just wrap your thread base to the bend of the hook, but when tying in your chenille only wrap thread over it as far back as the hook point, from there you can end it right there when you start the wrapping or you can make your first wrap a little farther back at the barb or close. However for a while I would just stop it at the hook point area until it gets comfortable to you.
