Cool Got tirred of trying to find what I wanted... so I started making them...

A few years back I found some jigs made with nothing but tinsel and they were HOT HOT HOT HOT!! Well... my son managed to lose my last one this spring. I went on an all out search to find them again... I had absolutely ZERO luck in finding pretty much anything even close. So started my adventure into jig making...

At first I just wanted to make a few like I had, that is when I learned of all the different colors and possibilities. Much to my wife's dismay... I have spent a small fortune on materials and a few tools, however I am now making jigs while sitting in front of the TV in the evenings. I have had so many requests from friends and family that I can't keep up with all the new stuff they are dreaming up... and you know if you are going to make something new for them to try out, you have to make a few to put in your box of tricks as well. I told him I would get back to him. I think I have created a monster here... although I do have to say I enjoy the creativity that tying jigs brings, just not sure I want this to turn into something where it becomes a chore.

You have no idea yet, LOL! I finally decided to stop the craziness this year after about 5 years of being behind from 8 to 10 weeks and even more a few times and once paid that just got the best of me. I started tying to have something to do, but soon became more than I ever wanted and couldn't seem to catch up and get this train slowed down. Thankfully I have now so you better watch it or it will take fishing time, family time and lots of other things away!!! Tell family and friend to get some tying stiff and get after it, LOL!

I have my 10 year old now learning to tie... sad thing is with his small fingers he can do a hand whip finish better than I can. I had to show him how to do it ONCE... he was like "so this line just wraps around and you pull it tight... no big deal this is easy" I was all like WTH... Once he gets the hang of working with the materials better I have a feeling his small fingers will once again be a major plus for him... the good Lord seemed fit to bless me with cow tits for fingers.

I have no comment on the subject!

I will say this. If you want it to be a full-time job, you have to bust your tail to make serious coin. If you want it to be a part-time gig/hobby and some extra $$$ in your pocket, you can make it work if you can balance work and play. Also note you will get the most business when you want to be fishing yourself... Another important practice is to be honest with ppl about your estimated time of delivery...

I stopped reading after your post so that I didn't skew what I was thinking.
To me, honestly, it depends on your free time.
Every second I get a free second, I want to fish. When I started tying for others, that time was completely gone. I wanted everybody else to experience what I do from MY Lures. I gave away to every local guy who asked. It made me happy to see people catch when I Cldnt. Never charged a dime. And even left a few mad. Just wasn't worth it anymore. The only jigs I tie anymore are for when I can go fish, bc I know my lures will last. And they're pretttttty.... To me anyways.
If I find a something I can't do, it excites me to try. Even more when I can teach it to someone afterwards. I credit that to the fella that taught me.
Lots of stuff to try, when I get too bored and can't fish. Just none too exciting yet.
My boys are gon be good tye'ers. And I credit that to all those that spent the extra seconds to help me also. They'll be great fisherman, bc of me.

after 55 years of making jigs I never did get tired of it or get discourage it can get overwhelming at times with orders but I have never give up on people and I enjoy the hobby so much it is strictly a hobby not a business though I do carry a website that I like to think of it is something for the average guy that is looking for something different though I do not list many patterns but I usually let the fishermen for customer come to me was something that they want sorry guys for not posting the different patterns I just seven felt like doing anything lately and it is too hot temperature here is been in the triple digits for the last three weeks but anyway I'm sure that all you guys will enjoy this beautiful hobby and if you do want to sell the real careful like Skip said it could really be overwhelming and you may be pulling your hair out.
