You really want to keep the natural ends with the jig. Here is are a couple of quick steps to get you going in the right direction. Pics aren't the best but I was holding the piece of tile behind the vice for background.

1st: Pull the feathers off. Stack so the tips are roughly the same length. Hold feathers in the hand that you will hold the sissors in to gauge the correct length (shown in pic). Switch which hand that is holding the feathers. Hold near from the side you will use on the jig close to the point where you are going to cut.

Attach to hook with 2 or 3 wraps. Adjust dispersion of feathers around hook shank.

PA Slabs Nice picture tutorial on how to tie a thread body. Wish I knew how to Post pictures on the board not that I haven't tried just that I haven't found out how yet. Next goal to learn how to post pictures on CDC.

Yellowjacket Now try to duplicate what PA Slabs has just shown you. Do a Red Head, Blue Body, and White tail. Then post a picture of it. Try to make it just like PA Slabs. Don't give up keep working you will get there.

Yes never tie it and cut the tail later as you have to cut the other end!
