Default Do we need a Vice and Tools board.

I removed that other thread entirely. It was going no-where. Please stay on topic here. revtoby asked me if we could have a Vice forum, and I did not think there would be enough interest (I thought this board could cover it). So he asked and I quote him below:

"How many people on here would like a vice and tool review sub forum on this page..It would be where we could put reviews for vices and tools we tie on or currently use. Everything could be in one place and you wouldn't have to search through tons of stuff to find what kinds of vices and tools are good to use for Jig Tying. It would not be a page to sell products. I feel the more information we have here on CDC the better. This is a great website and can only be made better by more information. There are other sites with vice reviews but I believe we are a special breed being mostly (JIG TiERS). Please place your vote for this new forum."

In this style I personally don't care, but if they want one like that we can make it work and I will have help with all of this. I don't feel it necessary, but after thinking about it the one thing it would do is keep the tool talk all in one spot where it would be easier for guys and gals to find.

Well, based on this thread, and the one I removed because it went way off topic, I decided we would try a Tools and Vices forum. If it dies a slow death, I can always put it out of it's misery. That the beauty of the Internet, it is so flexible.

And you guys have kept me hopping. With all the excitement going on here, and all the PMs I've been getting. I'm supposed to be out fishing with the GA members, and here I am, helping straighten out things here. But that's OK. That's what I do. I want to say thank you revtoby for stepping up and offering to help here on the Tying board. And I want to thank Skip for all his efforts, and his continuing efforts. I do know he needs a break.

Personally, I am not one who favors sub forums within forums. Many jig tiers want to know basic information on how to get started as well as some basic patterns. After that they flower and bloom by reading previous threads or searching a particular subject or key word. I believe one thread sticky on "Types of vices" on the jig tying forum will suffice and be more easily accessible there. Individuals with comments on a particular vice could post on a separate sticky "Vice reviews and comments". There you have only stickies instead of another sub forum. Just my humble opinion.

I think separating the tools of the trade (what we use to tie our jigs) from the Jig Tying/Making section will just make for confusion, not to mention how it might affect the space Ed has available on his server. Truthfully most of the information is already right here on the site, and I try to post the link to the thread with the information.

I've been gone for about a week and when I came back and tried to catch up on everything, but after reading some of the threads and seeing the changes I don't know if it's just shack nasties or what, and you can agree or disagree that's fine BUT, it seems the friendly/respectful/helpful nature of this great website took a nasty hit!!!!!!!!
