I don't do that very much, but I look at the jigs in the shops a lot. Doll hair and polar hair get a lot of play, and heads with oversized hooks from 1/32 up seem to be the norm.

First I want to introduce myself. I'm an avid flyfisherman. I've been tying flies and building rods for several years. I'm just now starting to get into tying jigs. Since I tie flies, I already have a more than sufficient supply of materials to tie jigs.
Now with that said, what is your favorite jig style/material for float and fly rigging? I think wood duck/mallard flank would work well, but I'm curious to see what others use. Also what is your favorite size/weight jig head to tie them on?

The flank feather is one of the original matierials in the float and fly, you can also use the teal flank feather for a darker barred feather. The craft hair they use on them you can get the actual stuff from Punisher Lures Punisher Craft Hair | Craft Hair | Punisher Lures-Fishing Lures, Spinnerbaits, Hair Jigs, Bass Lures they have a good deal for one pack of every color for $29.85.
My float and fly/light jig favorite is peacock and more peacock, sword tail and herl body. Have caught trout, crappie, gills, Kokanee, perch and a few others on it. No other single jig/fly has caught as more species for me. For a fly I use a #8 2x hook and for a jig I use 1/100 or 1/80 ball heads on a #8 or #6 hook.
I love taking my kids fishing, now if I could just manage to fish at the same time.
