Default Pros and Cons of using hackle for tail

Since I longline a lot I use more hackle jigs then marabou because It has more action while trolling but if I'm using a jig under a cork then it will be marabou. On a stop and go retrieve it's hard to beat marabou.

Pbug Mr flatfish and I had a decussion about this not that far back. We have come to the conclution that kip tail is the better material to use in a cold weather time. Less action than feathers of any kind. Crappies will slow down in cold weather periods I am not talking about cold fronts but Cold Months. Dec thur March for us. We both agreed that kiptail would be the best tail material since it has less action and would appeal to the crappies better. Will agree that in the warmer months I want to be useing bou or hackle tails. BTW I have all three but have been using kip this last month. It works for me but know there are many answers to this question depending on what part of the country you live.

I wouldn't decide one over the other and even include kip tails. The fish will want one better than the other many time and many time it's not the same. So you need confidence in all so you don't restrict your self.

I have one pattern that I use Fish Hair on. It is a good product but would only use it a wing material as that is where most of the action on it is. Bought 1/2 a pound from some company in Mineapolis, Mn in the 1980's when it first came out and they sent me a life time supply. I will never run out. Believe it was made for the carpet business but some one in the company was a fly tyer and it is a side line product of theres if I remember right. Nice colors too but straight with kinky ends. And no wise cracks about that last statement. This is a family friendly site.
