Hot jig for I and the wife this year has been 1/80 oz. hot pink/dk. blue or black kiptail on a #8 bronze hook. Even hot pink alone does well.
If buying jigs, one just can't go wrong with Grizzly Jig Co.s Bill's Water Flea. Overall deadliest gill jig I have ever used. It throws well on a fly outfit being a #10 dry fly hook and they are reasonable at under $7 per 12.
Quiriva Kid mentioned the red tail. That is good advise you should listen to. The next time you tie any color tailed jig , do a couple up replacing the tail with a 1/4" of red yarn or fur. I think you will be supprised how effective that is. When the bite is real tough, I bring out the "Red Butt Jigs"
Sorry for rambling on so much. Great Thread, ole giller

Len,
I played with some 1/80oz jigs here quick before work... Another idea I had that ended up looking good is a dubbed body jig with hares ear dubbing. Natural rabbit fur tail and a nice chunky hares ear body.
Great looking jigs Len. I was wandering why you don't have any eyes on them. YOU ARE THE EYE MASTER.I still have the jig that you won the swap that Flatfish46 did. Best eyes I have ever seen hand painted. Thanks for your help with teaching me how to do them!!

Speaking of red tail, Almost all my kip tail jigs I put a strand of Red floss in it.
However remember blue gills eat bugs a lot!
