Mixed up

Spoke to my brother in Atlanta Tuesday and he told me that all of the jigs I had given him at Christmas were hung in the brush over in Stone Mountain Lake. Said he could use some more when I got time. He saw the Guinea feather jigs I had tied and posted and asked for some of those. I told him I'd fix him up.I haven't sat at the desk for this long in a good while. Thought y'all might want to take a look. If Jim's looking, here's a preview. They are from 1/80 to 1/16. Them little ones are cool.

hey skeet they are nice. gettn ready to tie some guinea feather jigs myself. Bought like 7 different colors. Last fall from flatfish.

I can be at Stone Mountain in a few hours so tell your brother to let me know when he gets those jigs hung up in trees and I'll go retrieve them!! :D

Hey Skeet you like Guinea huh? I have one for you, but a little harder to tie since the feather stem has to sit on top of the hook shank and be perfectly flat going across the back or bottom depending on how your looking at it. I first tied one of these (which was something I just dreamed up) about 4 years ago and took it out and caught lots of bass and crappie. Most everything wanted it as I pulled it along like I do everything in the spring. Gonna put a picture in a minute, but let me explain tying it. You have to cut you feather into one of my little V's, LOL! Then hold it well and tie in on your hook like you see in this picture and once you finish thing the jig keep it in you vise, flat! I use some flex glue I make, but Flexament will do just fine. Anyway take some home made tool of wood, like a big tooth pick or wood skewer like I use and dip in in the glue and just put a little going right down that stem on both sides and on both sides of the feathers and let it dry. This will help keep the feather from just collapsing on it's self and keep the tips apart. I call is a wind jig and I don't make them on the cheap end and they are a bit of a pain to make, but they work great!

Hey Skeet, heres a tip to save some jigs. Get a couple 1 oz casting weight and a paper clip. Run your line and the casting weight eyelet on the paper clip. Let them slide down the line to knock the jig loose. It will usually get them loose, if not, let some slack in the line and the weight falls below the jig snag. A few quick jerks and this will do the trick. I started doing this a few months ago. At first I thought I'd lose the jig and the 1-oz weight. Surprisingly, I have yet to lose the first jig or weight since I've been doing this. Give it a try.
