babbitt is a mix of different alloys use in big fans, big elect motors exc. because when something happens and the bearings goes bad babbitt is softer and does not damage the shaft. babbitt can be a mix of lead & tin, tin & copper and others mixed to end user spect. The frend told me that what he gave me was lead & tin mix.

babbit is used to make oil lubed bearings, we used to make these at work. we also poured our jigheads at the same natural gas fired station.we sometimes ran out of lead and used some babbit.dont know the melting point but i think its close to lead. it is a little lighter than lead and harder but not that much.
didnt seem like the fish could tell the difference!! we used nat. gas fire and ladel, dont know if
lee pot would melt or not.

It'll work ok but you may need a little bit higher temp. I'd pour just that mix and mark it so you don't mix it up with your other stuff.
