Default I'm in need of help!!!

Ok...not sure what is goin wrong or when it happened but I changed up the way I tied my jigs after some advice and tips I read on here.
Here is what I do....I lay a thread bed down on the hook shank two rows thick, then put my flash, then Marabou(or just Marabou) and after each one I wrap the thread round bout 2 times, and then I lay the chenille the length of the hook shank then wrap the thread round it twice...then I make a few more wraps between the head and the chenille use my whip finish then put a spot of head cement on. I was tyin one just now and the whole thing rolled on the hook, so I picked up a few that I have done over the last few days and they did the some thing everything stay together but just rolled.....first time that has ever happened!! I looked some of my older ones and they did not do that but the older ones I put a coat of sally's hard as nails on the thread between addin each element of the jig.
So please any advice, and anyone else who has had this problem let me know so I dont feel like an idiot!!

    Thanks,
    AC

    AC,
Try using more thread wraps to secure your materials. I don't count my thread wraps, but if I pull on a material and it comes loose, what's the point? One fish and that jig's toast. Try a couple loose thread wraps to gather and place your material at the correct spot, then a few tight ones to really secure it. Make sure whatever you're tying to the hook shank itself is rock solid!

are you using pre-waxed thread make sure when you wrap your thread around the hook that you have more than several times around or else it will slip the waxed thread will hold tighter if you do not have some in the thread that you were using you can take a piece of wax and run the thread through it.

Never had that happen to me. Yet. I pull all my windings tight and occasionally break the thread. Too much caffeine, ya think? When in doubt, put a small spot of Sally on the shank when base winding. If that doesn't do it, then you need more tension on the material windings. Better it come apart on the vise than in the field.

First a whip finish I use 4-5 wraps to make one. I only lay one thread level base down and then tie in tail, then tie in flash and finally the chenille.

Ok Thanks...right now I'm wantin to just pull my hair out!!! Right now I have on the vise and have the marabou and had chenille on fixin to whip it, but then decided to test it, and it rolled on the hook shank, and so I unwrapped the chenille, and then the marabou was still rollin, I have messed w/ some of my other jigs I have made and I dont have that problem w/ all my jigs...its drivin me crazy! I may just have to use more sally's again....but was not wantin to, seems to make my jigs to hard...

I use almost always 210 denier Flat Waxed thread and I even break that sometimes. However I have learned that even without a lot of pressure the thread will hold well.

It does seem that marabou will try to do this a lot and I think it depends on how much you are actually tying in too. I make quite a few wraps on the marabou and once I wrap in in going back to the hook bend direction and start back to the eye I really crank down on the thread. Usually it may roll a little and I just roll it back, but this is before I make that last turn before wrapping back to the head. If it does this I will increase the pressure I am putting on with my fingers and thumb and wrap the heck out of it with plenty of wraps.

In my opinion, you aren't using enough wraps of thread, and they are not tight enough. you should use enough tension so the thread is actually streched some, and yes breaking the thread is common place in the learning process. I also put a little sally hansens on the shank before starting. If the thread you are using won't allow you to apply enough tension, go to a stronger thread.

Hey something else just hit me right between the eyes. Are you tying marabou using the stem? I never or almost never have any stem in mine. I actually tear all the barbules off the stem and them them in like that and it also give more action without a stem.

The only time I use a stem is when the it's so thin it will not matter.

That sounds like an awful lot of thread to me. I don't even lay down a full base of thread anymore. Just a tight wrap where I am going to put the marabou or whatever tail material down. I also do not wrap my chenille with thread but maybe 8-10 times down to the shank and again back top the jig head. I use Danville 140 waxed and rarely do I ever have a rolling problem with any of it. The tail material might try when I first tie it in but it tightens down quickly.

Have you possibly switched to a new hook style like a black nickel hook or maybe red hooks? It could be the finish on the hook that makes them slip. I have had that problem with red hooks a lot more than any other I recall.
I love taking my kids fishing, now if I could just manage to fish at the same time.
