I'm trying to learn the technique of wrapping hackle. With a few tips from RonDon and You-Tube, this is my first attempt.
This one is from a crow that got a little too close to a .22 long rifle.

They look good!! One small trick for ya if you have 5 turns of chenille, put each turn of hackle inbetween the two edges of chenille and then use two turns at the top. It spreads it out and let's the barbules move better in the water.

they look good scott....real good
Hey you will do fine with this and they should work with fish. Good job.
The only thing I would add or suggest is try maybe one or two less wraps at the finish. This is also one place a regular bend hook helps with more wraps since the usable shank is longer. I do know lots of time I make too many wraps.
It's also hard to keep the hackle from turning and really you want as best you can keep it from turning.
I just am learning a new way to dub and still protect the hackle so it will not cut when I fish bites it. I paid dearly to learn this new method with buying a DVD.
Anyway good job and just keep trying and remember the better the hackle the easier it is too. I have several Hen skins coming that I believe will be long enough for me to use the Hen feathers for this. Also going to get a couple more colors right away.

Thanks guys for the compliments and the tips. I'll have to order some better feathers than what I have now, but trying to learn the technique.

Boy I can't tell you how many hackle pliers I have tried and about to try one more, but the guy where I just bought some told me the name of what he uses and I forgot, crud! Got to call him again.
I know I have tried probably 6 different ones and none of them are as good as I want. If they don't slip off at just the wrong time then your good to go, but I have not found them yet unless I get better at these high end ones I got. I finally figured out how I am supposed to use them, but not something I have mastered yet. I hope these ones I have coming work good enough as I am so tired of them slipping away just when you about done or the darn stem breaking right at the finish. Another great pain in the rear is your about to tie down your chenille so it will not slip and now that is done you grab that hackle and start to wrap it and about ready to trap it to finish and the darn thing breaks back as the other end where you tied it in.
Oh and I even order a few more of them cheap ones I use to hold my jigs when I take the photo in my tiny studio.
I have ad it all happen,
