Jigs with out a collar are easier to deal with if you are making a chenille body. If you are just going to leave a thread neck (like bucktail jigs) a smooth collar gives you a base to start with. Both have their place.....
BTW - Looks like you are trying to tie your finish knot down by the hook bend. It will be (alot) easier to start your chenille at the hook bend end, wrap your tying thread up to the head, then wrap your chenille to the head, lock it down with your thread and do your finish knot right at the lead head. This will also help to keep the chenille tight near the head. Hope that make sense..... Really no "wrong" way to do it, but this is much easier IMO. Those will catch you some fish though!
