The crappie candy fly is pretty similar to a clouser and for whatever reason I catch ALOT more crappie using the bug flies than minnow imatition flies??? They work to locate fish, I get alot of hit and misses with them. Once I see flashes of fish near my fly, I switch up to a nymph and work the area over.
Wish I could get an explaniation for why a chenille/marabou jig will catch them for me but a chenille/marabou w. bugger in the same colors is not nearly effective?Must be how the presentation is I guess......
As for colors, stick with what colors you know work in any plastics you already use. I stick with natural colors and silver just because I fish very clear water, and shy away from most bright colors.
