Fluid Bed Problem

Need advice, I made a fluid bed today by these instructions: http://www.ehow.com/how_5223843_make...-lures.htmland
I'm sure it is a great bed just trying to find out what my problem is. When I give it air it starts to work then forms holes for the air to escape. Is it the paint it did have some lumps I had to bust up, to much powder in it or what? Any of you had this problem?

1.dampness at one time" trash ,and start over" I have tried everything to save the powder.Nothing i found works.Candies seem to be the ones it happens to mostly".I left the lid off for days w/ a small fan airing it,put it in a de humidifier,spread it out to dry natural.Best to start over.May have come that way too?!it happens.

2.Too much powder in the res.

What are you using for your air filtration media? The ehow article says to use coffee filter or brown paper bag. I have tried a lot of different materials and you can't duplicate the real thing. I get cups already made from Benjamin at Welcome to TJ's Tackle. I work for a large filtration company and I have tried a lot of media. The primary reason for volcanoing is the different size pores in the media which is the mean flow average. More air will go through the larger pores and cause uneven flow which causes volcanoing. There are commercial products you can buy but by the time you buy the material and make the cups it will cost a lot more than just buying them. Some folks on here have been using vacuum cleaner bags with some success but I have not tried that.TJ'S has the best prices that I know of. And your powder has to be very dry and taken care of. Heat and humidity will ruin the powder and make it very hard to work with. Powder painting can be fun when you get through the learning curve.Look in the Search at the top of this page. Thanks alot for your and grubs answers. This is powder I bought last year and was dipping it into the container and working great and this year I had problems dipping them is why I decided to try a Fluid dip, so apparently it is moisture.
Thanks for the info.....and will check out TJ's tackle.

Gotta go with Grub on this one. Sounds like you got some moisture and it wasted the powder. There was a guy who told about buying like 200 worth of powder and he left it in his car in bright sunlight and windows closed.

He tried everything we gave him him to try and it still didn't matter he tossed it bought more and no more problems.

Get ya some new stuff and when you store it make sure it's in a cool dry place.

Only other thing that might help would be a vibrator of some kind. this will make the PP move more fluidly and possibly keep the PP smooth and flowing as it should.

I do agree that it could be bad paint and I also agree that you can find fluid beds for rather cheap and they are by far the better way to go. I got mine for $7.50 on Ebay.
