Man the silence has been almost deafening as to what that guy said about the hooks.

    Has he said anything?

Talked with the president of MATZUO yesterday Skip I was concerned I have 25,000 custom's being built right now the last 10,000 I went through I averaged 17-19 bad hook's per box,but I had between 1047-1033 in ea. box so I still came out ahead the main thing I had was incomplete cycle's on the been end this is a common problem with high speed forming machine's I deal with this every day then I had long leg's on the 90 deg. eye bend some macjhine's use magnetic locator's to align the hook some time's trash get's in between the hook and stop and throw's this off I only had 6 like this.

I talked with him last week and he had not had a chance to look at them. I know he is in Orlando at a tackle convention this week. I myself am leaving for Canada on Friday and won't be back until mid week. I will talk to him at the tail end of next week

The problem is not the cost of a few bad hooks, it's when they break on some customer of yours and happens more than just one or two times. It is not how I come out on the number I buy as opposed to how many are bad. It's keep your customers happy and with quality goods.

I could care less about the couple bucks I have in jig heads that the hook breaks, it's the ones I don't break here before I send them out. How would you feel if you got say a 4 pound crappie on and the hook breaks; would you be a bit peeved? So it's not at all the issue you speak of and that to me is most unimportant.

They break any place from just before the first bend to before the second bend (maybe one or two after the second bend) and I break then when tying them. So the thread pressure I am using is breaking some of them. That is not acceptable. I sent them to lazerdoc, ask him what he got. Paul didn't understand what I was talking about and I sent him some too and once he broke one taking it out of the mold he too understood the problem. I mean if they are messing up the heat treat so that the hook is brittle that is not good and they have always had sorry QC.

I have had some break when I was making my whip finish so had an jig tied with no hook sticking out passed the body????

BTW this come from the guy (me) that was most responsible for making these popular here on crappie.com because no one esle was even tying them until I did a little over 3 years ago.

Ok I talked to Don today and the problem with the breakage is the heat treatment. They used to use oil but now use a sand bed. The bed is all computer controlled and the program may have had hot spots in it. They will have to adjust the program a bit. Problem is to test them they have to break alot out of a run. They usually test about 100 out of a 5000 run. They always find some that will break out of that 100. If all 100 broke then they adjust.New lots are being run so it may take a bit to get the new settings into the runs. He said what he can do is a double replacement policy on any broken hooks you find.
    Skip,,,just save yours

Wish I had a for sure answer but all I can say is they are aware and always add extra hooks to a 1000 pack to make up for any bad ones that slip by. He said there are others you find bad hooks like the breakage but they say they are still ahead of the game with the extras that are added to the 1000 lots.
