Default Surprise while testing a new one

After mowing lawn went over to neighbors pond to test a black and white pattern I have tied up on a 1/64 oz head. The near pond produced little action as the neighbor had just finished feeding them.

So went to the far pond and blam every cast produced a fat 9" plus gill. I was working the jig with a 4 weight fly rod 8'-6" and the big gills felt like minature stripers. Neighbor came out to talk to me and on about the 12 th cast or so . I hooked a super size gill and as I was nursing him in it happened.

KAAAA_BOOOOM this huge bass engulfed the stuggling gill and the drag on my little Reddington reel screamed like an Alantic salmon was attached to the other end. The bass held the gill in its mouth for over a minute and a half. It did not want to let it go. I thought my fly rod was going to break as much as it was bent. After the mintute or so he finally let go of the big gill.
Neighbor said it was the first time he seen one of his BIG bass jump on a big gill as they constanly devour the smaller ones. Realeased the gill after the big guy let it go and it showed no ill affects from episode.

Thats what I love about fishing you just never know.

My Dad had a 6 inch crappie on his line. That he had caught ona minner.
A big ole LM hit at the crappie and missed,Pop rehooked the crappie a put it back out and the bass did it again.Pulled the crappie off the hook.Missed again.

That would be a neat experiance for sure. I've had them follow big ones but have only took the smaller ones.

That's cool, I've seen big bass chase a big shiner all the way up on the bank, leaving the big shiner high and dry.Bass flopped on the bank and made it back in the water. Must have been a huge bass to take a gill that big..

I have trouble posting pics, that's why I seldom post pictures.Usually have my kids do it for me. I wish it was as easy as listing stuff on ebay.I have no problem doing that.I only have three brain cells left,at least that's what my wife of 30 years tells me.What do you want to see?
