I got a call the other day from my wife cussing me. She got out of the shower and started drying off and lucky for me she saw the jig stuck in the towel. She was not to happy with me.

I didn't see it till it was stuck in my knee, thank goodness that's all the further it made it!!!! Barb didn't go in, just the point, so that was good. I did practice catch and release. :D

If that happened to my wife, she would probably move my tying stuff out to the shed by the time I got home.

Fish 4 all - your jigs came just fine. Got to give you a AAA+ for all your efforts on the crochet work - uff-da!!

Yesterdays mail brought 1 package - from Attica Fish - safe and sound - well - maybe a little frost bit, it was about -5F when I got the mail....

    ----

I did get to town yesterday, and had a chat w/ our Post-mistress - Barb G. After showing her Len's package - both inner and outer, comparing the stamps (order and denomination), and her eyeballing the outer envelope, she said she would "forgive" the $.10 postage due. More on this in a bit.....

Then we took a look at DR Fish's envelope. She immediately pointed out that DR used some postal service software called Click-N-Ship for his postage - the post office generated labels are differant in appearance.

Barb went on to explain that all packages that use Click-N-Ship are weighed - at least once and some times multiple times. She eye-balled the 'Postage Due' stamp, and said that it didn't match the stamp they use in our local post office - so it was likely weighed in Indianna (where DR is located), or possibly in Minneapolis, which is the distribution center where our (Hayfield, MN) mail comes from.

The reason for weighing the Click-N-Ships is that they (postal service) have found that most scales used by Click-N-Ship users are off w/ regard to getting package weights correct, and the postage as a result.

So I paid her the $.34 for DR's package, and then she says "I'll pay that other $.10 out of my pocket..." "Huh????????????????" I says....

Barb then explained that Postmasters are personally responsible for the the value of all postage/cash, etc. Since she "forgave" the $.10, it had to come from somewhere....I then tryed to pay her, and we got in to a pushing match across the counter - I pushed her the dime, she'd shake her head, and push it back .... did this 2-3 times and gave up.

Bottom line - the Federal gov. / postal service is going to "get theirs" no matter what....

I felt "cheap" after I learned all that. It's one thing to argue the point w/ a faceless-nameless federal entity - its another thing when you've known the lady for several years, etc. Thank You Barb!! I owe you!

Default My contributions to the swap: #1

If you go back and look at post #6 in this thread, you'll see I mentioned wanting to come up w/ something differant.....

Here it is, although I've not come up w/ a name. I was doing a grocery run w/ my wife back in Dec, and I slipped away from the grocery cart for a run back to sporting goods, and I spotted the jigs. I bought a couple packages, just to tinker with....I tied 6 proto-types - some - to be very honest, are bad - I finally came up with this. Word of warning: Completely experimental!!

This is dressed with hot pink and Fl. blue kiptail, 4 strands of Krystal Flash and some saddle hackle. The head is 1/32 oz. They are also available in 1/16 oz. Hook looks to be about a #2 on both sizes.

    Update:

I had found these heads at one of the Wal-Mart Super Centers in my area, the other didn't have them. These are Renegade Turbo heads - item TH-132. Cost was about $1.29/pkg. These can be found on the Arkie Lures web site, once there, search for 'Turbo heads'.

    Default Contribution #2

This is something I played with a few weeks back. Since the water is hard up here, I've no way to play with and see if the fish approve.....

Flatfish got a couple similar to this in a swap he and I did on a personal basis a 2-3 weeks back...maybe he can tell us if it took any fish?

The marabou in this jig was heavily laden with dye, so much that there were large dry hunks of it in the fibers that I had to comb out. Worse, the dye transfered to my fingers as I tied, and from them, to the chenille I was using,
turning my fine, off-white chenille to dirty gray. I ended up re-wrapping with some medium bright white, and washed my hands alot, to try to prevent it a second time. The legs I tied deliberately, so that they point down when the jig is in the water.

    The head is 1/32 oz, w/ a #6 hook.
