Default We're off to see the Postmaster, the wonderful Postmaster of .....

3 packages were on the desk tonight when I got home....

Len, Gabulldog and DR Fish - your stuff has arrived - they made it to the frozen tundra.....nice job guys!! :D

My mailman also left me one of his 'greeting cards' - a funny looking brown envelope w/ the words 'Postage Due'. What the h***?

Now before I go further - allow me to state - very emphaticly - I am not ragging on you guys participating in the swap - the vast sum of $.44 is not the issue here. These are a couple of "how come" questions that I want to get answered at the post office.....Here's what I see....

Len used stamps on his envelopes - having opened his package and looked at his return envelope, I can look at the outer envelope and see that a $.10 stamp was affixed to the outer envelope and got tore off - the outer envelope is scarred where the stamp was. The order of the stamps on both envelopes identical, with a gap on the outer one for the missing stamp. The postage due is exactly $.10. Rough handling by the postal service no doubt....

Dr Fish's package is even more interesting - as he used metered mail - the postage due on his is $.34, which means the post office in his town mucked up when they weighed his package.

Won't be able to do the checking until Saturday morning - so stay tuned for further details on the out come.....

    Keep those packages coming....

    Default Swap #5

I am so sorry for the problem. Do not understand how the package could be weighed and then find out that there is postage due. Understand it is not the money, but i will be sending money to cover this. What is the postal service doing, trying to help bail out the auto makers?

DR Fish - you have a PM.

Flatfish - I highly suspect you are on the right track....I don't believe you or I can NOT pay our taxes and get away with it, yet our new President's pick to be the head of the IRS can, and the Senate thinks its just fine.....because he is such an important person....

Getting a postage due notice for these envelopes suggests that the postal service weighs packages / mail in general on both ends. Envelopes may make sense - but since packages are weighed at the origin post office, this seems redundant at the destination.

One of the things I was planning on doing was to calculate the amount of postage that we are throwing the postal services way - but simple math using some averages suggests the following:

    (# of participants -1) * $1.85)) * 2

24 (number of the current swap participants -1 (me)) * $1.85 (SWAG for postage - about what it has cost me in the past swaps) * 2 (# of envelopes) =
    $92.50 +/- a swap.

Now assuming we do this 5-6 more times - maybe more this year....and the number becomes a interesting number.....

Will be in Little Rock with my daddy this weekend (knee replacement) so will be finishing my Pink Panthers up there. I'm excited about going and staying with him and tying jigs so he can watch...it'll be a good time! Hopefully I won't get in trouble for carrying feathers and stuff in the hospital....lol Should get them sent off Monday.
