Nice fish! I can't imagine trying to cast that was fun. I was out today with a 1/2 oz egg sinker on with frozen guides and that was a pain to cast. I was fishing braid and had ice droplets forming on the line as I was reeling in go to cast and the spooled line was freezing to itself lol.

    Default Heated tips!!

Here in Wisconsin we use heated tips when it's this cold!
Not really, just pulling your crank:D
I do use bigger ring diameter tips on the rods I use though. Helps a little!
Pretty soon you'll be able to stand on the water and use a shack!!

When it get's so cold the guides start freezing up I break out a can of Blakemore Reel & Line Magic and spray it on the line and guides.Better to spray it on the line and soak in before heading out.It doesn't prevent icing but reduces it. Well worth the $6 for a can.

Thanks for the tip I have a can of it and was thinking about trying it but I wasn't sure if it would do any good. I mostly use braid so I rarely have a use for it as far as using it to reduce line memory and what not.

Snake River - Got your jigs in the mail. Very nice work and thanks again for the xtras, gona make me some steelhead eggs with that yellow.

JJJ & Snake - thanks for the advice, will have to give it a try. Was out again tonight, but the lake froze over with a skim of ice by 10:30 and I gave in. Oh well.

Jubs - My whole spool froze up tonight and a jig came flying back at me when I tried to cast once. Line looked like a bead necklace, was dead calm and just as cold as last night.

CK3 - You may have something... I thought it sounded like just what I needed until you said you were pulling my leg. A 9v battery and some wire and maybe you have a product there... Bet you could sell some ice rods with that idea!!!

I swear I have seen something for heating a pole but can't find it again. Was a small cord connected to 2 C or D cell batteries down under the reel seat. Might be that the thing caused too many poles to break with heating and cooling and uneven heating of the rod.
I love taking my kids fishing, now if I could just manage to fish at the same time.
