Hi all, it's been awhile. I just got my first boat and I have some questions. It has a 20 hp Mercury, where can I find info on it as far as maintenance and that sort of stuff. I got it from a friend who's father-in-law died. It was in his out building and my buddy had no use for it. I got the 14ft V bottom, 20hp Merc, Minn-kota trolling motor and trailer for $300 what a blessing. It was used last summer but I have no history of it's maintenance. Is it best to have it tuned up or can I do it myself, I do the maintenance on all my other stuff, lawn mowers, snow blowers and the like.
I will defend her still today!

fishing from the couch in front of the tv doesnt count
I have a '68 and a '79 model. Simple to work on. If it has even compression, good spark, and a decent pull cord, put a new impeller in and throw some fuel at it. Fuel pump diaphragms are in a rectangular unit, with fuel lines, and one vacuum line. Will be a great motor for your first.
