The Ohio River Fish Consumption Advisory web site lists many species in the river. From the looks of it, crappie are ok to eat 1x per week along the Indiana section.

If I had it my way it would be where spend most of my time crappie fishing - less wind etc...
I really liked fishing Hannah and one of the other rivers over by Lawrenceburg but I'm lost as to how to determine if the water is to muddy, or flowing to much to make it worth my while to head over that way from Fairfield. Especially this year!
Any tricks, info, advice?

I have never craappie fished on the river, only bass tourneys. About the only time the river gets really nasty is with the heavy spring rains. Then you have to watch what state is receiving the most rain, and how muddy the actual river is. If KY is getting the most rain, Ky creeks will rise and be more muddy than Indiana waters, and the fish scatter up in the brush and you cant get back to them.. If the river is muddy, the mud will flow into the mouth of the Indiana creeks because of the lower water level, or vice versa per state. In the spring I have locked thru to the upper pool and when they opened the doors and the entire approach lane was solid full of logs, your partner had to move them while you idled thru. A true nightmare. I know the main river holds a lot of crappie, I have seen them on the electronics. About the worst things of fishing the river is the drive both ways and the fuel you can burn. The last classic I fished on the river, my fuel bill was more than the motel bill, and I was there for a week with three days of competition. Its a blast to fish though.
