    Default Ohio River info

fishing the ohio river... heard all the storys about dirty & bad water... call dnr its not so... it is safe to fish & ski... it is the only place close to all of us that has 3lb crappie, & a lot of 14", 15" crappie... the bite can be great one day & very slow the next like any place you fish... there is a lot of creeks in all 3 states O.K.I. you sometimes don't see a boat in the creek you are fishing . if you don't try the ohio river you are missing something special...there is a lot of creeks to fish, and they all have good crappies, not sure were to fish no need to leave Tanners creek... it is over 10 miles long with more standing timber, more stumps & lay downs then you fish in a life time... it has good water for trolling... PS. as you come in the lot there is 2 sets of ramps, use the one on your right...the ones on the left very little to no water...

I like fishing any river for that reason...surpise,,,surprise! This year has really been a downer cause of all the rain and muddy flow of the river. As of this weekend we can finally fish the East Fork of the White river as its finally cleaning up..missed the entire spawn except for the end of the channel cats going on now or almost totally over. What a year!

I have always wondered about the Ohio and how the crappie fishing was.

Do you guys keep and eat what you are catching in the creeks?

I know the Ohio is just as clean as Patoka is, or Patoka is as dirty as the Ohio is now days. Just depends on how you want to look at it. Regardless they have cleaned the river up a lot in the last couple of decades, and it and Patoka basically holds the same fish eating guidelines. Neither are going to kill you or make you grow a third eye or an extra limb unless you eat fish from the waters for every meal on a continuous basis over a prolonged period.
