Rend Lake Today
Spent the day beating the bushes on Rend today, with little success! The bite just
wasn't there today. Weather was in the lower 80's, water temp varied from 63.8 to
65.4. Had a bluebird sky and the wind was tolerable. Couldn't ask for better con-
ditions, but it didn'the work out, as the crappie had lockjaw. Well we will try again
sometime in the future. Used slip bobber's and plain hooks with minnows.

Went out today also. First time I have ever fished rend and the bushes. Took home five overs. Big fish bite was tough. Caught a bunch of shorts early on before the bite dam near came to a husky. Water was a tad dirty to slightly stained

Thanks bowhunter. We went from no water to too much. There is a lot more area for them to hide in now than there was before the rains. Gonna give it a try. Beats working any time, catching or not!

Hey "bluesfan" I see that "bowhunter1" answered your question, and yes
as to where we fished, it was somewhat muddy. We launched out of the
Turnip Patch boat launch on the west side of the lake and we did not sit
still. It appeared that we could only pull one fish out of a section of bushes,
then we had to move. This is the first time in fishing Rend over the past
3 years, that I experienced the frustration I felt.

Been to Rend about 5 times this year and got a limit each time. Haven't tried minnows yet or the buckbrush. Guess I'll try my few favorite spots and if that don't work I'll take a boat ride and search for them. I need to burn some gas---dont think I've used 5 gallons in the 5 previous trips and I put about 40 gallons in the tanks last October.

BluesFan... If you know where the crappie were before the rain and water still stained, I'd back on out to the prior location and fish from bottom on up until you connect! I find that it takes a few days for the fishes to move into the "new shallows", as they will follow bate back in. Now if they had already set beds, prior to rain, most will stay put.Originally Posted by bluesfan
If you're new in on the lake, try adding depth of the rise in water to depth last known and find that water back!
Example:Last report said fish in 12" of water. Had a 12" rise of water since that report. Find the water, at 24" and fish bottom to top. Drop to bottom, raise 6-8" and rest a bit... jig slow, then rest. Darker jigs in the stained water as well.
Remember, those fish are still eating somewhere!
