From the boat. You can have a gas motor, just can't use it. The game warden told me he would never write a ticket for people using the motor for loading loading. I know him personally, so, I believe him. It's a fairly dangerous ramp to load without the motor. I never use my motor but I just have a jon with 20 horse, so it's easy to pull on, and used this ramp my whole life so I'm use to it. HINT: DO NOT STEP IN THE WATER on the ramp unless you HAVE TO. It is VERY slick with no bumps or anything with traction. You will slip straight in and I've seen several people get hurt. Iv'e owned three different style of boats....bass, v bottom, and flat bottoms, and the most successful way to load there is to back in the trailer until the wheels or fenders are slightly under water....leaving yourself room to stand between the truck and the water. Then pull or drive your boat on. I usually pull in on, then get on the platform I put on my tongue to attach the main strap and get off to crank it up.
Hope this helps.
