Nick I have heard you and other guides say that and I definitely agree! I had rather catch 10 overs on stumps, brush, & stake beds than to pound under the bridges to get my limit of 25, over and unders. Most of us fall prey to fishing under the bridges because it is easy!

Wait til this fall!. I've took to crappie Fishin pretty hard just over the last 5 years. So I'm part of the new wave of fishermen on Rend. But over the last 5 yrs, the boat traffic has probably doubled if not tripled around the bridges in late fall. I've seen 40 boats at the big bridge and over 30 at the west bridge at a time. I can assure you I haven't hurt the population any cause I rarely keep unders so I'm lucky to get my 10 covers for the day. I don't go every day or every week in the fall but I know guys that do and they keep everything that bites. And there are probably more cheaters out there than we think.

We talked about it at work and I believe the fall is harder on them than the spring. The last 2 springs had high water and unstable weather making it harder to go out and murder em everyday. But fall... its a free for all everyday.

I still believe the limit is good the way it is simply for people without a boat. It would be much more difficult to bring any home with an over 10 in only limit. So balance is still a difficult thing.

We are all sitting on our hands and not doing a thing to address the problem of a declining crappie population. The idea of self imposing a lower limit will not work unless it is the Rend Lake Law for the lake not everyone will comply! We must get the IDNR involved. The Corp of Engineers could care less. The lake was build for water supply not to supply fish for the fishermen. The IDNR is our only hope. In addition, I feel there needs to be more creel checks for size and numbers on the water and at the ramps. If the word passes that wardens are passing out $200 fines, fishing may improve.

Start by contacting Mike Hooe. He is IDNR region 5 fisheries biologist. That's how you get the ball rolling. Has to start with him

Iv "heard" of several people on rend that will take people out fishing, and for the right price will make their limit dissapear and then go out for another couple limits simply because they said they arent worried about the wardens checking people there.
