Went fishing at Juliette this morning, luanched at 630 at Dames Ferry. Cloudy and cool, I was hoping the rain would hold off. Motored down to the second cove just before the timber starts. Caught 10 nice ones, the biggest probably a 1lb 3/4 with most at least a pound or so. All were good filleting size. All were caught on a Charlier Brewer Slider in red/ white with a orange head casting to timber in 20' of water. Hooked a monster slab fought it to the boat and tried to lift it in, POW! the line breaks. Thats what I get for trying to do that with 4lb line, stupid things you do when you get excited. Left at 1030 due to the weather getting ugly, didn't catch a bunch but compared to what I usually do while fishing for crappie it was a great day. Then I got to use my electric fillet knife I got for fathers day...I will never go back to an old style knife.

Good report. Come on down to the fish fry, one of the prizes is a landing net. LOL Don't that just chap your butt when you do something like that? Sounds like you had a good day.
Don't feel to bad Dutch, that sounds exactly like something I've done before. On more occassions I care to admit. Great report, hope to see you at the slab fest.....
Birddog,
I pray that I may live to fish until my dying day. And when it comes to my last cast I then most humbly pray. When in the Lord's great landing net and peacefully asleep. That in His mercy I be judged, BIG ENOUGH TO KEEP.
Great work at Juliette!!
Too bad you couldn't have fished longer.
And that is why I use a net on every fish I want to keep...hee hee...I think we have all been there before!!
I won't be at work........I'm feelin' crappie today!

Got to thinking about the small waters to avoid the holiday rush. Juliette would be a good candidate. I know the water is normally really clear and makes the fishing tough. Can you fish at night and has anyone done any night fishing there? As clear as the water is, I was thinking that some lights would really bring in the bait and then hopefully the slabs. I know the state and GA Power run the lake and the ramps. Do they lock the gates after a certain time? Thanks.

Shine Runner I was wondering the same thing. I know some folks that used to fish at night but that was a couple of years ago. I think they lock the campground but the ramps may stay open. I found this info and will try and give them a call later to find out. One things for sure, there aren't any dock lights to fish on that lake.

I have got to run to Macon for a little while. Thinking about running up to the lake and see how it looks and talk to the folks at the guard shack or someone working at the camp ground. May take my son this evening/night if works out. Will try to post later if find out anything and/or if definately going tonight. Thanks for the info.

oh ya, definately no dock lights so the boat lights may give them some thing different and get them interested in biting a hook!

The one problem is there are so many places for them to be in that standing timber it is hard to get them to come to you, and it being so clear is another big disadvantage.
I remember it is VERY tricky to get around at night too....you might want to go really early and remember to stay inside that channel marker until you find the right spot....and probably wouldn't be a bad idea to stay as close to the boat ramp as possible having your son with you and all.....
I thought the couple times I went there, we were gonna hit it just right, but it was very early on in my crappying days too....so, I may have not really known what I was doing either.
I have been before at night and thought it was gonna be great....we had mayflies, we had baitfish, but no other fish! Hee hee...
Good luck I would love to hear how it goes if you decide to head there tonight.....
